The National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS) has attributed the shortage of food in the country to inadequate information and training of farmers largely  provided by agricultural extension services in Nigeria.

President of the body, Ken Ukoha, who stated this yesterday in Abuja at a one-day stakeholders’ consultation forum, decried the gradual extinction of such key components in the Agricultural Transformation Agenda .

Describing the extension agency sub-sector as a bridge between farmers, policymakers and research institutions, Ukoha called for the reformation and strengthening of the services of the agents, including their proper staffing, training and retraining, in order for both the farmers and government to optimally derive the benefits from agriculture.
